Caimi Brevetti S.p.A. is an Italian manufacturer of furniture, accessories and acoustic products based in Nova Milanese, a town in the province of Monza and Brianza in the Lombardy region. The company was founded in 1949 by Renato Caimi together with his brother Mario Caimi. It remains family-owned and family-run more than seven decades later, structured as a società per azioni (joint-stock company) that continues to be controlled and managed by the Caimi family. The company's early identity was built on patented household and metal-and-plastic accessories rather than furniture. One of its best-known historic products is the "schiscetta", a patented airtight metal lunch container that Renato Caimi developed in the early 1950s for factory workers carrying meals to work. The "Brevetti" in the company name is the Italian word for "patents", reflecting a long practice of registering original designs. Through the 1960s and 1970s the firm broadened into accessories for communal and public spaces, producing items such as umbrella stands, coat racks and waste bins in large quantities. From the 1990s onward Caimi expanded into furniture, working with internationally recognised Italian designers and architects including Michele De Lucchi, Mario Bellini, Marc Sadler, Alberto Meda and Alessandro Mendini. During this period the company developed modular systems such as shelving and seating, typically combining metal structures with plastic, wood, leather and glass. This collaboration-driven model, pairing in-house engineering and patents with outside designers, became central to the company's later work. The development most associated with Caimi today is Snowsound, its patented acoustic technology, which the company introduced around 2011 and has expanded continuously since. Snowsound is based on sound-absorbing panels made of polyester material with variable, differentiated density. This construction allows selective absorption across different sound frequencies while keeping the panels thin, lightweight and free of visible frames or seams, so they can be adapted to many interior settings. A related development, Snowsound Fiber, uses interwoven polyester acoustic fibres that are inherently fire-resistant and can be made into fabrics. The Snowsound range includes a number of distinct products. Mitesco, designed by Michele De Lucchi, is a panel system that can be mounted on walls and ceilings or used as desk dividers. Flap, designed by Alberto Meda and Francesco Meda, consists of acoustic panels mounted on articulated hinges and arms so they can be rotated and angled into flat, concave or convex arrangements for both visual and acoustic effect. Baffle, designed by Marc Sadler, is a system of ceiling-suspended acoustic panels. Caimi also offers partition and desk-divider products for organising open-plan workspaces while managing noise. Caimi's primary markets are the office and contract furniture sectors, where acoustic panels and office accessories are sold to architects, interior designers and specifiers rather than directly to most end consumers. Its acoustic products are commonly used in workplaces, but also in healthcare, educational and hospitality interiors where controlling reverberation and noise is a design requirement. The company's products are distributed internationally, including through dedicated Snowsound operations in markets such as the United States, and are presented at design fairs such as the Salone del Mobile in Milan. Over its history Caimi and its Snowsound line have received design recognition including multiple Compasso d'Oro awards and German Design Awards. The combination of a long manufacturing history in office accessories with a more recent focus on acoustic panels defines the company's contemporary profile as a producer of Italian acoustic furniture. It pairs in-house engineering and patents with collaborations from well-known Italian designers, and it concentrates its production and development in Lombardy.
