naughtone is a British furniture company based in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, that designs and manufactures contemporary furniture for workplace and hospitality interiors. Its range centres on upholstered seating, tables and collaborative and ancillary furniture intended for offices, lounges and shared spaces. Since 2019 it has been part of the group now known as MillerKnoll. The company was founded in 2005 and built its business around contemporary design and in-house upholstery manufacturing in the United Kingdom. It became known for furniture aimed at the "ancillary" and collaborative areas of the workplace — the lounge, breakout and soft-seating spaces that sit alongside desks — as well as hospitality settings, working with external designers on its collections. naughtone's relationship with the American manufacturer Herman Miller developed in stages. Herman Miller acquired a 50 percent stake in naughtone in 2016 as part of expanding its collaborative and ancillary furniture offering, and in 2019 it acquired the remaining shares in a transaction reported at around 46 million US dollars. naughtone subsequently became part of the MillerKnoll collective of brands while continuing to design and manufacture in the UK. Among its products are upholstered seating ranges such as the Always modular seating, the Polly chair and the Viv chair, alongside tables and complementary pieces. The company's approach combines contemporary, often colourful design with a focus on furniture for the way people use workplaces beyond the desk. naughtone's furniture is used primarily in offices and hospitality interiors and is sold through contract dealers and the wider MillerKnoll distribution network internationally. As a UK-based contract furniture maker now within a larger international group, naughtone focuses on collaborative and ancillary furnishings for the workplace.
