NaughtOne is a British contract furniture brand based in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, that designs upholstered seating, stools and tables for commercial interiors, and has traded since 2005. The company was founded in 2005 by Mark Hammond and Kieron Bakewell. Herman Miller first took a 50 percent stake in NaughtOne in 2016, then acquired the remaining shares in October 2019 in a transaction valued at approximately $46.1 million; that announcement described the business as having grown in the collaborative furniture market under the leadership of Matt Welsh, Kieron Bakewell and Mark Hammond, with Welsh then vice president of sales and Bakewell vice president of creative. After Herman Miller completed its acquisition of Knoll in July 2021, the combined company took the name MillerKnoll, and NaughtOne is listed among its brands and continues to trade under its own name. Its head office is at Central House, Beckwith Knowle, Harrogate, and the company reports nearly 100 people across the UK, Europe, Asia and the USA, with showrooms in London, Manchester, Chicago and New York. It has received the Queen's Award for Enterprise for International Trade. Product development is led by an in-house design team alongside commissions from outside designers, among them Keiji Takeuchi, Daniel Schofield, Lucy Kurrein, John Tree, Nicole Marion, Ric Frampton and Sam McMorran. UK and European production is centred on the company's factory at Elland, West Yorkshire, which it describes as its centre of excellence and home of its Custom Studio; output for other markets is placed with specialist partners in the United States and manufacturers in China and India, an approach the company summarises as designed in the UK, made globally. The catalogue is organised into chairs, stools, modular seating, soft seating, booths, low tables, tables, task tables, desks and storage, in materials that include upholstery over polyurethane cold-cure foam, mild steel, plywood, solid oak, polypropylene and linoleum. Certifications listed by the company include ISO 14001:2015, FSC (C028824) and SCS Indoor Advantage Gold, alongside FISP membership and published Health Product Declarations. Products carry a ten-year warranty, a global take-back programme has run since 2019, and Product IDs, QR codes applied to items made in the UK factory, link to repair, care, recycling, warranty and certification information. Products in the range include the Always chair, an in-house design shown by the company in September 2013: an upholstered shell with rounded contours, offered on four-leg, sled, four-star and five-star bases and extended into counter stool, barstool and lounge versions. The Polly chair takes its name from the polypropylene of its seat shell, and is offered on leg, sled and star bases and in a stackable version. The Morse table system, designed by John Tree, builds work, meeting and circular tables at standard and bar heights on powder-coated steel or solid oak legs, with tops in MDF, oak veneer or Forbo linoleum. Lucy Kurrein designed the Pippin lounge chair, a movable cone-shaped seat with optional castors. More recent additions include the Mimo modular seating and table collection by Keiji Takeuchi and the Fin lounge chair by Daniel Schofield, both introduced in July 2025, the latter built from two interlocking upholstered plywood shapes, and Lotti, a cafe chair by Takeuchi shown at Clerkenwell Design Week in May 2026 and designed to be taken apart without specialist tools. NaughtOne furniture is specified mainly for workplace interiors, and the company's case study index also covers education, hospitality, healthcare, retail and residential projects. Published examples include offices for Google in Dublin, Pentagram in London, Etsy in New York and Microsoft in Aliso Viejo, California; a Finnair lounge at the airline's Flight Academy in Helsinki; and education work at Northeastern University in London and Lohja Secondary School in Finland. Products are available through the brand's official website and its dealer network, alongside the wider MillerKnoll dealer and showroom network.
