Moroso is an Italian furniture manufacturer based near Udine, in the Friuli region of north-eastern Italy, known for upholstered seating produced in collaboration with international designers. Its catalogue centres on sofas, armchairs and seating, extended with tables and accessories, for residential and contract interiors, and it remains a family-owned company. The company was founded in 1952 by Agostino Moroso, together with Diana Moroso, and spent its first decades as a relatively traditional Italian upholstery manufacturer. Agostino Moroso led the business until the 1990s, when his children Roberto and Patrizia Moroso took over and began transforming the regionally focused family firm into an internationally recognised design company. Manufacturing has remained in the Udine area. A defining shift came when Patrizia Moroso took on the role of art director and brought in a roster of contemporary designers. The company became known for working with figures such as Patricia Urquiola — whose collaboration with Moroso began in 1998 — as well as Ron Arad, Tord Boontje, Tokujin Yoshioka and others. These partnerships produced upholstered seating with strong, often experimental forms, distinguishing the company within the Italian furniture sector. Moroso's approach combines this design-driven direction with upholstery manufacturing, and its products range from sculptural lounge seating to sofas and chairs for both homes and public interiors. The emphasis on external designers and expressive design is central to how the company is positioned. Moroso's furniture is used in residential interiors as well as hospitality and contract settings, and it is sold internationally through showrooms, design retailers and authorised dealers.
