Enea is a Spanish furniture company based in Legorreta, in the Goierri district of Gipuzkoa, within the Basque Country. It operates under the trading name Enea Design and produces contemporary contract furniture for public and collective spaces. The brand dates to 1984, when it emerged inside the cooperative Eredu, S. Coop. The company name draws on a Basque word, reflecting the regional furniture-making tradition of Gipuzkoa from which the business grew. Enea is structured as a worker cooperative, meaning many of its staff are also part owners of the enterprise. The cooperative is a member of the Mondragon Corporation, one of the largest industrial groups in Spain and an organisation built around a federation of Basque cooperatives. This ownership model situates Enea within a long-standing tradition of cooperative manufacturing in the Basque Country, and the company manufactures its products at its facility in the region. The company concentrates on contract seating and tables rather than a broad domestic catalogue. Its range centres on chairs, lounge chairs, stools, poufs, benches and tables intended for offices, hotels, restaurants, auditoriums, educational institutions and healthcare settings, alongside residential use. A defining feature of Enea's catalogue is its long-running collaboration with the Barcelona design studio Lievore Altherr Molina, the partnership of Alberto Lievore, Jeannette Altherr and Manel Molina that operated from 1991 until 2016. The most widely recognised result of that collaboration is the Lottus collection, a multi-height family of chairs and tables. Lottus chairs combine slim chromed-steel frames with a durable polypropylene shell and are produced in numerous configurations, including stackable chairs, office and conference versions on five-spoke bases, sled-base models and high-back variants. The collection extends to the Lottus Lounge, a broader and more relaxed seat suited to waiting rooms, reception areas and hotels, and to the Lottus tables, whose bases are offered in a wide spectrum of colours with tops available in various shapes and finishes. Enea's roster of designers extends beyond that founding collaboration. After the Lievore Altherr Molina studio dissolved in 2016, Manel Molina continued to work with Enea through Estudi Manel Molina, contributing designs such as the Mate chair. The company has also worked with other studios, including Lluscà Design on the BCN chair. Its more recent catalogue features collections marketed under Basque-derived names such as Gura, Lore, Leku, Kua, Noa and Kaiak, together with established programs spanning chairs, stools, benches, side tables and table bases.
